Middle Park Residence

An Alterations & Additions to an existing single storey residence, with a new garage and studio to the rear

With intentions to respect and preserve the front heritage facade yet create a design that was in contrast to the existing house, the idea for the rear of the house was derived from a traditional warehouse typology common to the area in the past. Highlight windows are tucked away in each sawtooth section of roof, invisible from the street, yet bringing in light to a considerably narrow house. Classic materials to the area consisting of metal standing seam cladding and existing red bricks were re-used for the laneway facade.

Harnessing the use of light courts, a southern facing courtyard and laneway facing windows to bring more light into the house, this has been paired with an elegant pared back interior, keeping the overall interiors classic and minimal. This provides an opportunity for our client’s personality and artwork to inhabit and hero the space.

Middle Park Residence was shaped from an external facade idea, dissecting a traditional warehouse form for a home that is private yet open, providing a dynamic interface between the street as a public realm and a glimpse of private indoor activity.
